THAI Air Business Class: NRT-BKK-DPS

After a short layover in NRT (Tokyo) from my ANA flight, I was ready to board Thai Air’s A380 to Bangkok. I finally got to try it out after Thai Air did an equipment swap on me 2 years ago. For my seat, I selected a window seat (15A) which had the side table on the aisle side providing more privacy. The nice feature of the A380 is that you have a storage compartment between the seat and the window. It was large enough to fit my laptop and case. After takeoff, we were offered dinner service which unfortunately I don’t have the menu for anymore. It was shrimp with green beans and beef curry I think. The food was decent although I would rate ANA’s quality higher.

I decided to sleep some more as my body clock was all a mess. The lie flat seat was nice and I was able to get 4 hours of sleep. Prior to landing into Bangkok, I turned on the tail camera on my TV to watch us land. Very cool feature of the A380’s!

With a late night arriving flight my connecting flight wouldn’t leave until the next day. This required an overnight stay in Bangkok. I tried to get a free hotel for flying in Business Class but award tickets weren’t eligible so I decided to lounge hop as each was closing or opening throughout the night. The best lounge open around 2AM was EVA Air. They had fresh young coconuts cut and ready to enjoy. I had a few 🙂 The immigration line to exit the airport was crazy so I’m glad I didn’t try to go into the city to sleep at a hotel. Once the Royal Orchid Spa opened I went for a foot massage which is available to Thai Air Business Class passengers. Very relaxing! If you fly Thai Air First Class you will get a 1hr full body massage.

Boarding my flight to Denpasar (Bali, Indonesia) required taking a bus to a remote stand. When we arrived, I knew right away Thai Air did an equipment change from the new 787 to the old 777. What a disappointment! They are the worst airline for changing equipment last minute. Another passenger also mentioned it to the flight attendant and she mentioned the change happened that morning and occurs often. The breakfast meal was very satisfying to make up for the disappointment. While landing, I recognized the island that I visited 3 years ago and know now why people vacation there. I want to go back soon!

Thai Air overall was a nice experience but the equipment changes have impacted both trips I’ve flown them.
