Pro Tip: How to Defeat Jet Lag
In the past 4 years, I’ve flown on 50+ long haul flights and have learned a few tips to make it easier once you land. Defeating jet lag on flights longer than 10 hours isn’t easy no matter which class of service you fly. Flying in First or Business Class doesn’t mean you will avoid jet leg even though you might have had a good nights sleep on your lie-flat bed.
10 Tips:
- Stay hydrated with plenty of water! Avoid drinking too much alcohol prior or inflight
- Start adjusting to the new time zone prior to your flight. Stay up later or go to bed earlier
- Upon arrival, walk around outside for some fresh air and sun
- Eat at the time the local’s are eating to align yourself to the current schedule
- Force yourself to stay up until bedtime if you are tired
- Set alarms if you need that 1 hour power nap, otherwise you might nap too long and mess up your body clock
- Eat healthy meals with fruits, vegetables and protein
- Fly on a newer plane with improved ventilation systems such as the Boeing 787 (Dreamliner), Airbus A380 or Airbus A350
- Sleep as much as you can on the plane
- Do some cardio exercises within 48 hours of landing
