Verizon Wireless Unlimited Ultimate Plan: Best for World Travelers
As the upcoming summer travel season approaches, I want to remind everyone that traveling internationally with your current wireless provider doesn’t always mean paying exorbitant fees.
Verizon Wireless (VZW) has a new plan, Unlimited Ultimate, which includes 10GB of international data per month. It’s only $10/month more than Unlimited Plus plan which most VZW subscribers are likely on. If you travel internationally for at least 10 days per year, it’s best to switch to the Unlimited Ultimate plan as TravelPass is now $12/day. If you are a heavy data user, you do now get 5GB/day of data with TravelPass so that might be better for short trips. You could always swap plans as needed based on international travel if it’s limited, but be careful if you have a Device Credit on your line. Downgrading your plan might decrease your monthly Device Credit from a phone trade-in. T-Mobile used to be the best choice for international roaming, but their Magenta Plus/Go5G Plus plan offers only 5GB per month. Consequently, Verizon has surpassed them by providing 10GB monthly.
Regardless of your provider, if you’re a heavy data user or plan to visit a destination multiple times within 30-90 days, consider getting a prepaid data eSIM for your trip. eSIMDB is a tool that allows you to find compare prepaid eSIM plans for international phone service, instead of just relying on Airalo. I used it recently and was able to get 30GB of data for $30 in Japan for 90 days via RedteaGO which is much cheaper than Airalo. This supplemented my VZW allocation of 10GB/month as I’m a heavy data user (>1GB/day) and I was on a 2 week trip.
