Airport Lounge Access

Most travelers never even think about gaining access to the elite Lounges inside the airports. I used to always think you must be traveling First Class or have elite status with the airline. That is no longer the case with more reciprocal access programs now available to the occasional traveler. The following options are ways I’ve used to gain access for both myself and friends while traveling around the world:

-Lounge passes obtained from Business Reward programs (ex. AA Business Extra)

-Chase Ink Bold & Ink Plus Cards (2 free visits per card per year within the Lounge Club Network)

-Purchase passes for select Lounges through LoungeBuddy app

-Purchase day passes from the lounge directly

-AMEX Platinum Card (the best credit card for lounge access and most complex policies):

• Centurion Lounge: You can bring your immediately family (spouse or domestic partner, children under 18) or up to two other travel companions with you at no additional cost.
• Airspace Lounge: You can bring two guests with you at no additional cost. To bring any additional guests, you’ll be responsible for the guest fees, which vary by location.
• Delta Sky Club: You can buy guest passes for your spouse or domestic partner and a child under 21, or up to two other traveling companions for $29 per person. Any additional guests may purchase day passes.
• Priority Pass Select: Most lounges allow you to bring guests for a fee of $27 per person, which will be charged to your Platinum Card. Due to processing, charges may not appear on your account statement for up to 60 days.

The quality of lounges vary but some offer hot food, showers, massages, snacks, full bars, etc. Always check LoungeBuddy for reviews so you know what to expect. Some of the best lounges of the 30+ I’ve visited include: Singapore SilverKris @ SIN, ANA Business Class Lounge @ NRT, Thai Royal Orchid Spa @ BKK, AMEX Centurion Lounge @ SFO, Star Alliance Business Class Lounge @ LAX and Etihad Arrivals Lounge @ AUH.
